Sounding Now starts today. This is a blogging project on new and adventuresome music happening in Singapore. It is hosted by the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music’s Composition Programme, written by composition students, instructors, and guest authors. It aims to spotlight events happening in Singapore that focus on contemporary classical music, electronic music, experimental music, and freely improvised music. We will have blogs that feature interviews with composers and musicians as well as introductions to works that are being performed in Singapore. In that regard, the blog can also serve as a guide to the music that you’ll be hearing in concerts, offering you a way to connect with the music on a deeper level.
Ultimately, we hope this blog becomes a tool for building a community of listeners who have a shared interest in new and unusual music. Maybe you’re a practitioner of contemporary or experimental music, a free improvisor, or just an adventuresome listener who wonders what is there new and unique to hear in Singapore. If you’re bored with the standard offerings, then Sounding Now may hold something of interest for you.
And if you find the content in this blog interesting and useful, then we hope you will subscribe to its feed – or to the YST Facebook page – so that you will automatically get updated information about events happening in Singapore.
